Mexican bishops present book on missing persons to Pope Leo XIV

Monseñor Ramón Castro Castro, president of the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM), presented a book titled ‘Un nombre, mil voces’ to Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. The document, which exceeds 200 pages, compiles the names, photographs, and stories of approximately 132,000 missing persons in Mexico.

The project is an initiative of the National Peace Dialogue campaign, involving the CEM, the Conference of Superiors Major of Religious of Mexico (CIRM), and the Jesuits. It aims to provide visibility to the disappearance crisis and honor the memory of victims and their families.

The CEM intends to present the document to the United Nations as well. The initiative follows a period of heightened concern after the murder of Jesuit priests in 2022 and seeks to demand justice, truth, and accountability regarding the forensic crisis and impunity in Mexico.
