Mexican religious leaders report disappearances to Pope

Overview

Mexican religious leaders, led by the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM) and involving the Jesuits and the Conference of Superiors Major of Religious of Mexico (CIRM), have presented a comprehensive report to Pope Leo XIV regarding the disappearance crisis in Mexico.

The document, titled ‘Un nombre, mil voces’ or ‘The Faces and Names of Forced Disappearance in Mexico’, spans over 200 pages and compiles the names, photographs, and personal stories of approximately 132,000 missing persons. The initiative, part of the National Peace Dialogue campaign, seeks to provide a human face to official statistics and address the ongoing forensic crisis and impunity in the country.

Following the presentation at the Vatican, the CEM expressed intentions to bring the document to the United Nations and other international institutions to demand justice, truth, and accountability.
