Mexican Navy seizes over 1.3 tonnes of cocaine off Guerrero coast
On 7 June 2026, the Mexican Navy’s maritime patrol intercepted a shipment of illicit cocaine in the Pacific waters off Boca Chica, Tecpan de Galeana, Guerrero. Naval personnel recovered 29 packages weighing about 1,360 kg (approximately 1.3 tonnes) of the drug, which authorities estimate could yield up to 2.6 million doses. The cargo was valued at roughly 283 million pesos (about US$16 million) and was handed over to the Secretariat of Security and Protection Citizen and the Federal Attorney’s Office for investigation.
A separate but related operation the same day seized an additional 829 kg of cocaine from a small vessel about 195 nautical miles south of Guerrero, detaining five crew members. That haul was valued at about 180 million pesos and could represent roughly 1.6 million doses. Both seizures add to more than 71 tonnes of cocaine intercepted by the Navy during the current administration.
The operations are part of ongoing maritime surveillance aimed at disrupting narcotics trafficking routes that move drugs from South America through the Mexican Pacific to international markets.
