Mexican health authorities conduct cataract surgery campaigns
Health institutions in Mexico have implemented specialized surgical campaigns to treat cataracts and restore vision to hundreds of patients.
In Veracruz Norte, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) conducted extraordinary cataract surgery sessions throughout September. These efforts benefited 271 beneficiaries, including 87 patients at the General Zone Hospital No. 71 in Veracruz and 184 patients at the General Zone Hospital No. 11 in Xalapa. The initiative, part of a national strategy, focused on providing modern, ambulatory procedures to help patients, particularly older adults, regain autonomy in their daily lives.
In Guanajuato, the Secretariat of Health concluded its second Macro Cataract Surgery Session of 2026. This recent weekend session saw 419 patients undergo surgery at the León General Hospital. Including previous interventions in May, the state has reached a total of 574 patients operated on this year. The program aims to provide specialized medical services to various regions of the state to improve the well-being and independence of local families.
