Mexican states show divergent industrial growth in April

Data from INEGI’s Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity by Federated Entity (IMAIEF) reveals divergent industrial performance across several Mexican states for April 2026.

Veracruz and Sinaloa showed strong growth, with Veracruz increasing 11.2% annually—driven by mining (25.7%) and construction—and Sinaloa growing 10.4%, largely due to a 24.9% surge in construction. San Luis Potosí also reported a 4.2% annual increase, supported by an 8% rise in manufacturing.

In contrast, other regions faced challenges. Zacatecas saw a 5.8% annual increase, though its mining sector contracted by 1.8%. Coahuila reported a 3.7% annual decline, marking five consecutive months of negative year-on-year comparisons. Experts note that in Coahuila, the automotive industry is struggling due to trade tariffs, supply chain issues, and difficulties importing specialized steel, which has contributed to a broader economic slowdown in the state.
