Mexican influencer El Piturris killed in Sonora shooting
José Luis Esparza Güicho, a 37-year-old Mexican influencer known as ‘El Piturris,’ was shot and killed while working at his family’s taco shop, Los Güichos, in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. According to the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office, a gunman entered the restaurant and opened fire before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle with an accomplice. Esparza, who gained popularity through humorous content and his podcast ‘La Guarida,’ died from his injuries after being transported to a hospital.
Authorities are investigating potential links to organized crime. Security analysts have suggested Esparza may have been a ‘collateral target’ due to alleged connections between a relative and local cartels. This incident marks the 20th death of a social media creator in Mexico over the past two years, part of a concerning trend involving high-profile attacks on influencers, including recent killings of Valeria Márquez and César Gastélum.
