Mexican legislators address labor issues in Veracruz and deforestation in Cuernavaca

In Veracruz, federal deputy Rubén Moreira Valdez has proposed an agreement to address the economic and labor consequences following the closure of the Ingenio San Pedro sugar mill in Lerdo de Tejada. The proposal calls for the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) to coordinate with state and municipal authorities to ensure workers' rights are protected and that employer obligations are met. Additionally, the initiative seeks alternatives for the reception and commercialization of sugarcane production and encourages economic diversification in the Los Tuxtlas region.

In Morelos, the Congress of the Union approved a resolution to combat urban deforestation in Cuernavaca. Driven by deputy Meggie Salgado, the measure urges the state government and the municipal administration to coordinate efforts to protect the city's trees and green spaces. The resolution aims to increase environmental inspections and penalize unjustified tree removal, which has been linked to real estate and road projects, in order to mitigate rising temperatures and protect local water aquifers.
