Mexican legislators propose stricter security and vetting measures
In Guanajuato, the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) has introduced a reform initiative to the State Private Security Law. The proposal aims to strengthen the supervision of private security firms to prevent infiltration by organized crime. Deputy Alejandro Arias Ávila noted that the diversification of security services requires updated legal classifications to close regulatory gaps. The initiative seeks to establish information mechanisms to support crime prevention, including updated databases for employment requests and records of criminal incidents involving security providers.
In Oaxaca, Deputy Haydeé Reyes of the Morena party has called for the rigorous application of security and financial intelligence filters during the selection process for the municipal presidency of Oaxaca de Juárez. Reyes emphasized the need for background checks involving the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) and federal security authorities to ensure candidates have no criminal links. She argued that popularity alone is insufficient for candidacy, stressing that candidates must demonstrate honesty and a trustworthy trajectory to protect the interests of citizens.
