Mexican legislators request leave to run in 2026‑2027 elections

A total of 20 federal legislators have filed requests for leave from the Mexican Congress to pursue candidacies in the upcoming 2026‑2027 electoral cycle. Eleven new requests were submitted, adding six deputies and five senators—among them members of Morena, the National Action Party (PAN) and the Ecologist Green Party (PVEM)—to nine earlier applications that included a Morena senator from Guerrero and several other deputies.

Four Morena deputies specifically announced plans to seek local offices: Rocío Barrera Puc will run for municipal president of Tizimín, Oscar Brito Zapata aims to lead the 4T project in Mérida, Jessica Saidén Quiroz is positioned for a state secretariat if not nominated, and Jazmín Villanueva Moo targets the mayoralty of Umán.
