Mexican Local Governments Expand Free Health and Justice Services

In Tzucacab, Yucatán, the State Attorney General's Office held a public hearing—the first of its kind in the municipality—bringing together the mayors of Tzucacab, Akil, Peto and Tixméhuac, judges, victim‑assistance officials and public defenders. Prosecutor Juan Manuel León León said the event aims to bring justice to remote communities, offering legal guidance, filing complaints and coordinating with local governments.

In Mexico City’s Cuauhtémoc borough, the “Súmale Vecinal” program, directed by borough mayor Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, set up a mobile health and social‑service clinic in the colonia Morelos. Hundreds of residents received free medical exams, dental care, HIV testing, legal advice and job‑placement assistance, part of a citywide effort that has reached 33 neighborhoods and helped more than 9,000 people.
