Mexican trafficker Juan Carlos González Pérez extradited for Campeche meth ring

U.S. authorities identified a criminal organization based in the Mexican state of Campeche that from October 2020 through March 2025 shipped large quantities of methamphetamine to Iowa and Nebraska. The network coordinated purchases and sales primarily through Facebook, according to the Department of Justice.

Juan Carlos González Pérez, born 1988 and known by aliases such as “Campeche” and “Fabián Andrade,” was arrested on 27 May in Campeche by Interpol agents acting on a provisional arrest warrant issued by the United States. He was detained in the Reclusorio Oriente and, a week later, informed a Mexican judge that he would consent to extradition to face charges in the U.S. Southern District of Iowa for conspiracy to possess and distribute methamphetamine.

The DEA’s undercover operation began in June 2023 when an informant, posing as a buyer, contacted González Pérez via Facebook Messenger. The sting led to the seizure of a vehicle containing a pound of meth, an additional 30 pounds hidden in a compartment, and roughly $25,000 in cash. The evidence linked González Pérez to the preparation of hundreds of pounds of meth in Mexico and its transport to the United States.

U.S. prosecutors allege that the organization also moved drug‑sale proceeds back to Mexico. The case underscores cross‑border drug‑trafficking challenges and demonstrates cooperation between U.S., Mexican, and Interpol law‑enforcement agencies.
