Mexican military deploys relief efforts in Sonora and Michoacán
The Mexican Secretariat of National Defense (Defensa) has deployed 4,872 personnel under the Plan DN-III-E to assist communities affected by tropical storms Polo and Rachel.
In Sonora, where Hurricane Polo degraded into a tropical storm, 2,822 members of the Army, Air Force, and National Guard are operating primarily in Guaymas, Cajeme, and Hermosillo. An additional 500 personnel have been sent to Tijuana, Baja California, as reinforcement. Relief efforts include using over 150 vehicles and heavy machinery to clear roads of mud, fallen trees, and debris. Military forces are also performing drainage operations with high-capacity pumps and cleaning public spaces and homes. Currently, 32 shelters are active in Sonora, housing more than 930 people with supplies of food, water, and medical attention.
In Michoacán, 2,050 elements are implementing the prevention phase of the Plan DN-III-E due to Tropical Storm Rachel. Personnel are conducting patrols along rivers, streams, and roads to monitor potential risks to local communities as rainfall continues.
