Baja California: Tropical Storm Rachel leaves eight dead and hundreds of homes damaged

Tropical Storm Rachel has caused significant devastation in Baja California, Mexico, particularly in the Ensenada and San Quintín regions. The storm has resulted in at least eight confirmed deaths, including four minors, and left four people missing after being swept away by rising waters in local streams.

Emergency response efforts are underway, with the Mexican Army activating Plan DN-III-E. A total of 3,560 personnel from the military, navy, state police, and Civil Protection have been deployed for search and rescue operations. Authorities have already successfully rescued 32 individuals who were previously isolated by the flooding.

Material damage is extensive, with at least 628 homes reported affected. Economic losses are estimated at approximately 50 million dollars due to the destruction of crops, greenhouses, and warehouses. As the region recovers, officials warn that the situation remains critical as Hurricane Simon continues to move through the Pacific, potentially threatening the coast again.
