Latin American municipalities expand animal welfare services

Various municipal and regional authorities across Latin America are expanding animal welfare initiatives through new facilities, services, and regulations.

In Peru, the Provincial Municipality of Andahuaylas has inaugurated the region's first municipal veterinary clinic in the Coliseo Municipal, offering vaccinations, surgeries, and sterilizations at social prices. In Argentina, the municipality of Villa Nueva is conducting free rabies vaccination campaigns, while the Zoonosis and Animal Protection Directorate has deployed the ‘Castramóvil’ to provide free sterilization and medical care in local neighborhoods.

In Mexico, several cities are implementing localized programs. Aguascalientes has provided 14,000 medical attentions through its Municipal Veterinary Hospital. In Tecate, the Municipal Institute of Animal Welfare (IMBAT) has expanded its operations to include a new center for rescued dogs and cats. Piedras Negras is conducting welfare jornadas in the Macroplaza to combat pet overpopulation, and in Coahuila, the State Attorney General's Office has been designated as a ‘Pet Friendly’ building, allowing owners to enter with pets during official business. Additionally, organizations in Saltillo are organizing community events to promote pet adoption.
