Mexican Municipalities Expand LED Street Lighting Programs

The municipal government of Santa Lucía del Camino in Oaxaca installed more than 40 new LED street lamps in the Flores Sur neighborhood as part of its "Santa Lucía Segura e Iluminada" initiative. The project, led by mayor Juan Carlos García Márquez and coordinated with a local neighborhood committee, also included preventive tree pruning by the civil‑protection department to improve visibility and safety for roughly 480 students who travel the area after dark.

In the town of Jesús María, mayor César Medina reported that 121 luminaires were replaced with LED units in the Paso Blanco area, bringing the community to 100 % LED illumination in streets, public spaces, schools and nearby roads. The municipal public‑services director Enrique Barba said the goal is to have 3,500 LED fixtures installed by the end of 2026, replacing older sodium‑vapor lamps, cutting electricity consumption and redirecting savings to further upgrades.
