Mexican municipalities implement environmental protection measures

Municipal authorities in Mexico are implementing measures to protect natural zones and regulate land use. In Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mayor Pedro Rodríguez Villegas announced the demolition of unauthorized construction in a ravine located in the San Juan Ixtacala Plano Sur neighborhood. The site is a federal zone and a natural watercourse with hydrological value. The action was coordinated with the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) and the Aguas del Valle de México Basin Organization to prevent environmental risks and ensure regulatory compliance.

In Tepoztlán, Morelos, the local government has initiated the modification of the Local Ecological Land Use Program. This plan aims to regulate land use outside population centers to prevent environmental degradation. The process includes the formal installation of the Ecological Land Use Committee (COET), which consists of executive and technical structures. The municipality is calling for public participation, inviting social, academic, community, and indigenous representatives to join the technical body and contribute to the environmental diagnosis of the region, which includes the El Tepozteco National Park and the Chichinautzin Biological Corridor.
