Mexican municipalities launch free pet sterilization campaigns

In Cancún, Quintana Roo, the Instituto for the Protection and Welfare of Animals of Benito Juárez held the eighth day of its "Zero animal overpopulation from the root" campaign, performing 63 free sterilizations of dogs and cats at the community center of Superblock 246. The program also promoted free rabies vaccinations scheduled for June 28 at the Superblock 240 sports dome.

In Yecapixtla, Morelos, the municipal government announced a separate free sterilization drive on June 29 at the Huexca Municipal Aid Center, limited to 40 pets. Owners must register in advance, ensure animals are at least four months old, fast for 12 hours, and meet specific handling requirements. Both initiatives aim to encourage responsible pet ownership and reduce stray animal populations.

These coordinated efforts reflect local authorities’ focus on animal welfare and public‑health safety across the two Mexican municipalities.
