Mexican municipalities launch pet welfare and adoption initiatives
Municipalities in Mexico are implementing various initiatives to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.
In Chihuahua, the Coordination of Environment and Animal Protection has scheduled a free service day for dogs and cats near Parque Fundadores (Huerta Legarreta). The event, organized under the administration of Mayor Marco Bonilla Mendoza, will offer rabies and multiple vaccinations, internal and external deworming, vaccination cards, and municipal pet registration. Additionally, native plants will be distributed to support environmental strategies.
In Piedras Negras, Coahuila, a successful pet adoption day was held at the Macroplaza II Canine Park. The event aimed to find responsible homes for rescued dogs and cats, aligning with the Municipal Development Plan 2025-2027. The local administration utilizes a dedicated Animal Welfare Center to manage these efforts and combat animal abandonment.
