Mexican National Guard adopts chihuahua for community outreach
The Mexican National Guard has adopted a chihuahua named Comando, who has gained international attention for his role within the force. Approximately 13 months old, the 7-kilogram, 21-centimeter dog was adopted by the corporation in the state of Chihuahua after his elderly owners could no longer care for him.
Comando is utilized primarily for community outreach and social proximity activities, such as civic ceremonies, school events, and military parades. Lieutenant Débora Hernández stated that his presence helps break the paradigm that only large dogs can serve in the corporation and assists in building trust with the community.
While his primary role is charismatic and social, Comando has also undergone training for search and rescue operations. He is frequently seen wearing custom-made tactical gear, including a miniature vest, helmet, and goggles.
