Mexican Navy cleans Champotón beach and seizes 270 kg of cocaine in Manzanillo

The Mexican Navy’s Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) led a joint operation with local students to clean up Playa Quelonios in Champotón, Campeche. Volunteers from CETIS 82 and naval personnel removed roughly 143 kg of solid waste, including single‑use plastics, glass bottles, aluminum cans and abandoned fishing gear, in an effort to protect the nearby sea‑turtle nesting area.

In a separate port‑security operation, the Navy’s Naval Port Protection Unit, together with the National Customs Agency, the Secretariat of Security and Protection Citizens and the Federal Attorney General’s Office, discovered and seized 268 packages containing about 270 kg of cocaine inside a container at the Manzanillo port in Colima. Two men traveling in irregular migration status were also detained and handed over to authorities.

Both actions are part of ongoing maritime initiatives aimed at safeguarding Mexico’s coastal environment and combating illicit trafficking.
