Mexican officials demand accountability following storm-related damage and deaths
In Mexico, political leaders are calling for increased accountability and technical assessments following severe weather events. In Ensenada, Morena councilman Iván Salas Palma has demanded the resignation of Municipal Civil Protection Coordinator Julio César Obregón Angulo. The demand follows the deaths of nine people during Tropical Storm Rachel, with officials alleging a lack of formal warnings and preventive measures to evacuate families in high-risk zones.
Separately, the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM) has called for a technical report from Civil Protection to evaluate damage caused by coastal erosion and Cold Front No. 2. Reports indicate approximately 1,438 families have been affected in communities such as Pénjamo, El Alacrán, Villa Sánchez, Magallanes, and Sintepé. The PVEM emphasized that any relocation plans must be supported by rigorous technical data and include comprehensive solutions for housing, health, and education.
