Mexican opposition rallies over World Cup protests and ICC case against AMLO

PAN federal deputy Genoveva Huerta criticised the federal government’s handling of protests by mothers of missing persons during the World Cup opening ceremony, urging international monitoring of security forces and citing previous repression in Puebla. She denounced the justice system as “collapsed” and called for protection of the demonstrators.

Journalist Jacaranda Correa reported that the opposition bloc is seeking legitimacy abroad after a dinner hosted by the American Society and the PAN’s filing of a complaint against former president López Obrador at the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity. Correa said the moves aim to unite conservative and far‑right forces and could constitute a form of international law‑fare, while noting the ruling Morena party’s strong popular base.
