Mexican peso fluctuates amid US inflation data and Fed expectations

The Mexican peso experienced fluctuations against the US dollar during the second week of September 2026. On September 11, the peso showed appreciation, trading at approximately 16.93 units per dollar, despite a weekly depreciation of nearly 0.3%.

Market volatility was influenced by US consumer inflation data for August, which showed a monthly increase of 0.4% and an annual rate of 3.4%. These figures have reinforced market expectations regarding the Federal Reserve's upcoming interest rate decisions scheduled for September 15 and 16.

Throughout the week, the interbank exchange rate in Mexico saw various ranges. Early in the week, the rate fluctuated between 16.85 and 16.92 pesos. By mid-week and toward the close, the rate moved between 16.93 and 17.00 pesos per dollar.
