Mexican peso posts strongest week since June as Fed holds rates

The Mexican peso appreciated to around 17.32 pesos per U.S. dollar, marking its best weekly performance since mid‑June. Analysts noted the exchange rate opened the week at 17.35 and closed with a roughly 1% gain, driven by a weakening dollar and heightened caution over Middle‑East tensions.

The U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged reinforced market expectations, while the Banco de México reported the peso’s daily rise of one centavo. Although the Mexican Stock Exchange slipped slightly in the final session, the broader market posted its strongest weekly gain in several weeks. Monex analysts highlighted an upward bias for the MXN/USD pair, citing the dollar’s retreat against a basket of currencies and the impact of higher Brent crude prices on global risk sentiment.
