Morena suspends rights of Puebla deputies over ageist comments

The National Commission of Honesty and Justice (CNHJ) of the Morena party has suspended the political rights of Puebla local deputies Nayeli Salvatori Bojalil and Elvia Graciela Palomares Ramírez. This precautionary measure follows controversy from the "DesCasadas" podcast, where the legislators made ageist and derogatory remarks toward older men, including comments that they "smell like a trunk" and are "already rotting."

The suspension is an internal party measure and does not affect their official duties as deputies in the Puebla Congress. However, while the disciplinary procedure (file CNHJ-PUE-552/2026) is active, the deputies are prohibited from voting, participating in assemblies, committees, or internal decision-making processes, and are barred from seeking party nominations.

Salvatori has publicly acknowledged the error and reported receiving threats following the viral spread of the audio. The CNHJ has granted both legislators five days to present a formal defense. A final resolution regarding potential further sanctions, including possible expulsion from the party, will be determined after the investigation is complete.
