Representatives from 35 Mexican public state universities, coordinated by the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES), delivered their 2025 audited financial statements and academic progress reports to the Federal Chamber of Deputies and the Superior Auditor of the Federation (ASF).

This annual exercise serves as a mechanism for transparency and accountability regarding the use of public resources. During the proceedings, university rectors called for strategic alliances with the Federal Legislature to improve financial stability and tax mechanisms. The UAT rector specifically proposed a common agenda to ensure that academic knowledge translates into social benefits for vulnerable communities.

Aureliano Hernández Palacios Cardel, head of the ASF, noted that recent audits of these institutions do not show patterns of the previous “Master Fraud” embezzlement scheme. He emphasized that current financial management differs from past irregularities. Meanwhile, some institutions, such as the Autonomous University of Zacatecas (UAZ), face severe financial distress, requiring state and federal aid to cover significant debts and payroll obligations.
