Mexican security forces engage in separate armed clashes with criminal groups
Security forces in Mexico have engaged in separate violent confrontations with armed groups in Guerrero and the border region of Michoacán and Jalisco.
In Chilpancingo, Guerrero, the Mexican Army reported an exchange of gunfire during ‘Operation Xaltianguis’ in the community of Coacoyulillo. The military repelled an attack by organized crime members, resulting in the arrest of two suspected members of the ‘Los Ardillos’ gang. Authorities also seized long weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles. During the operation, local residents reportedly confronted military personnel with sticks and stones, prompting the deployment of the National Guard to restore order.
In a separate incident near the Chilatán Dam, spanning the Michoacán and Jalisco regions, the National Guard engaged heavily armed civilians. The confrontation resulted in the death of one federal agent, identified as Jesús Humberto M, and left another officer wounded. Following the exchange of fire, the aggressors fled the area. Federal forces remain in the region to search for those responsible.
