Mexican security operations against organized crime

Overview

Mexican security forces have intensified operations against organized crime across multiple states. In early September, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) deployed approximately 600 troops to Guanajuato, specifically targeting the León and Irapuato areas. This deployment aimed to dismantle criminal organizations, such as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel (CSRL), following high homicide rates in the region.

Subsequent operations in Guerrero and the Michoacán-Jalisco border region resulted in direct armed confrontations. In Guerrero, military personnel repelled an attack by the ‘Los Ardillos’ gang, leading to arrests and the seizure of weapons. In the Michoacán and Jalisco border region, a heavy exchange of fire between the National Guard and armed civilians resulted in the death of one federal agent and the wounding of another.
