Mexican Senate marks 11th anniversary of UN Agenda 2030
The Mexican Senate held a commemorative event to mark the eleventh anniversary of the United Nations' Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Senator Amalia García Medina, president of the Commission for the Follow-up to the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda, led a symbolic lighting of the Senate facilities in green to mark the occasion.
García Medina issued an alert regarding the pace of progress, noting that with less than three years remaining until the deadline, the estimated international achievement rate for these goals is approximately 18 percent. She emphasized that the SDGs serve as a fundamental roadmap to guarantee the rights of current and future generations, covering critical areas such as poverty eradication, food security, quality education, and climate change mitigation.
The legislator called for increased collaboration between public authorities, academia, civil society, and the citizenry to accelerate implementation. Other senators present, including representatives from the Morena and PRI parties, reaffirmed the state's commitment to these global objectives and stressed the need for legislative initiatives to align with the 17 goals to ensure the planet's viability.
