Mexican Senate reports 3.03 billion peso budget underspending

The Senate of the Republic reported an underspending of 3.031 billion pesos during the first half of the year. According to data submitted to the National Transparency Platform, the Senate utilized 2.255 billion pesos out of its annual budget of 5.287 billion pesos, representing approximately 58 percent of its total resources.

Significant portions of the unspent funds are categorized under various administrative headings. This includes 1.898 billion pesos in the Personal Services chapter, which covers the stipends of the 128 senators as well as salaries and benefits for staff. Other unspent amounts include 564 million pesos for General Services, 479 million pesos for transfers, assignments, subsidies, and other aids, and 52.5 million pesos for materials and supplies.

The report also indicates a reduction in the salary and benefits area of approximately 36.7 million pesos. Specifically, the budget for Provisions saw a 15.1 percent cut, leaving 72.1 million pesos unspent. Unlike previous reporting methods that differentiated between quarterly and annual budgets, this report compared the first-semester spending directly against the total annual budget.
