Mexican states report drop in vehicle thefts and high recovery rates

The public security secretary of Sinaloa said that on the day before the report, seven vehicle thefts were recorded and four of the stolen units were recovered shortly after, allowing owners to receive their vehicles promptly.

In Querétaro, the municipal security department reported the recovery of 388 vehicles – 256 cars and 132 motorcycles – during the first half of 2026. The state recorded a 19% decline in vehicle thefts and a 35% decline in parts theft compared with the same period in 2025, attributing the results to police work, 9‑1‑1 emergency‑center technology and vehicle‑observation points.
