Mexican Stock Market Falls, Ending Three-Day Gain Streak
The Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC) of the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores dropped about 1.2% on Wednesday, closing near 66,480 points and breaking a three‑session rally. Major losers included Femsa (-4.84%), Grupo Carso‑controlled GCC (-3.56%), Volaris (-3.49%), América Móvil (-2.98%) and Banregio (-2.17%). The peso weakened 0.13% to roughly 17.46 per dollar.
The decline coincided with broader global equity weakness as Wall Street indices fell amid heightened Middle‑East tensions after renewed US strikes on Iran, which pushed oil prices up more than 6% and increased risk aversion. Semiconductor stocks tied to artificial‑intelligence chip spending also weighed on markets. Trading volume on the BMV reached about 203 million shares, valued at 16.9 billion pesos (≈$970 million). Analysts noted the move reflects tightening investor sentiment ahead of the Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy decision.
