Mexican tourist dies at Machu Picchu

A 66-year-old Mexican tourist, identified as Álvaro Sánchez Pérez, died at the Machu Picchu archaeological site in the Cusco region of Peru on Friday.

The incident occurred around 9:25 a.m. local time while Sánchez Pérez was taking photographs on an elevated platform in the Andenes sector of Route 2. According to the Dirección Desconcentrada de Cultura de Cusco (DDC), the visitor suffered a sudden physical collapse during his tour.

Park workers and guards immediately activated emergency protocols and provided initial assistance. Medical personnel from the clinic located at the entrance of the citadel and officers from the National Police of Peru arrived at the scene, but confirmed that the visitor had already passed away.

The case has been reported to the Peruvian Public Ministry to initiate legal procedures and forensic evaluations. The DDC expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased.
