Mexican tourists generate €2 billion for Madrid in 2025

In 2025, 650,000 Mexican visitors to Madrid contributed an estimated €2 billion to the city’s economy, according to Laura Martínez Cerro, director general of Tourism and Hospitality for the Community of Madrid. The surge, reported as a 25 % increase over the previous year, reflects strong demand for Spanish hospitality, shopping and cultural experiences.

Iberia’s newly launched direct Monterrey‑Madrid service, operating three weekly flights with 288‑seat A330‑200 aircraft, has been highlighted as a key driver of the growth. Iberia’s global sales director Victor Moneo said the route exceeded expectations in its first month, with passenger volumes on Mexico‑Spain flights up 29 % since 2019 and premium‑cabin demand rising 117 %.

Spanish tourism officials noted that Mexico is now the second‑largest non‑EU market for Spanish tourism, with more than one million Mexican travelers visiting Spain in the same period, underscoring deepening bilateral tourism ties.
