Mexican towns grapple with animal‑related sanitation problems

Residents of the El Mangal colonia in Puerto Vallarta have complained that a family has been operating an unmaintained farm at Miramar 1448, keeping goats and chickens without cleaning animal waste for several months. The buildup of manure has generated strong odors and a large fly infestation, affecting nearby families, including babies, children and the elderly. Neighbours say they have filed a complaint with authorities but have received no response and are calling for an inspection.

In the community of Baca in Yucatán, locals report that garbage left for hours at the municipal market has attracted stray cats, which reproduce unchecked and form large groups that feed on the waste. Vendors and residents say the situation spreads trash onto the streets and poses health risks. They have asked municipal president Miguel Basto Bastoto to enforce stricter waste management, create a designated disposal area for market waste, and control the stray‑cat population.
