Mexican universities boost tech education with new Smart Factory lab and agricultural prototype contest

The Autonomous University of Guadalajara (UAG) has opened a Smart Factory laboratory designed in partnership with Bosch. The facility equips engineering students with industrial‑grade automation, digitalization and intelligent systems, and includes training for faculty to integrate the lab into curricula.

Separately, the Autonomous University of Chapingo (UACh) held its first prototype competition, showcasing around 50 student projects that apply artificial intelligence, robotics, IoT sensors and precision‑agriculture tools to address real‑world farming challenges. The contest highlighted innovations such as computer‑vision for tomato leaf damage detection, automated corn flow devices, robotic weed‑control mechanisms and digital platforms for agricultural education.
