Mexican universities implement social inclusion and peace initiatives

Mexican higher education institutions are implementing various initiatives focused on social inclusion, gender equality, and peace.

The University of Colima (UdeC) launched the XVII International Colloquium on Gender Equality in Higher Education Institutions. Organized by the ANUIES Gender, Inclusion, and Social Equity Network, the virtual event aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue to create inclusive environments free of violence and address social inequalities affecting women and gender dissidents.

In a separate social initiative, Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva and UdeC inaugurated an educational classroom at the Colima Social Reinsertion Center (Cereso). Through the ‘Horizontes de Voluntad’ program, inmates will access instruction in arts, philosophy, and nature to support personal development and social reintegration.

Meanwhile, the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx) has focused on institutional peace. Rector Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado presented the ‘Decalogue of Safe and Peaceful Spaces’ and signed a letter of intent with international peace ambassadors to strengthen a culture of dialogue and diversity within the university.
