Mexican urban parks promote biodiversity through educational tours

Environmental education and biodiversity programs are being promoted through urban parks in Mexico. In Guadalajara, the Agencia Metropolitana de Bosques Urbanos (AMBU) offers free guided tours to connect citizens with local ecosystems. These tours include visits to the Parque Agua Azul, which features a butterfly house, an aviary with 30 species, a macaw garden, and an orchidarium containing 58 species. Between 2025 and July 2026, these activities hosted over 66,000 visitors.

In Cozumel, the Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC), in partnership with ‘Pajareando Cozumel’, organized bird-watching sessions at Parque Urbano Corazón. The initiative aimed to teach participants how to identify various bird species through their characteristics and songs. These efforts are part of broader regional actions to promote the responsible use of public spaces and community involvement in natural resource conservation.
