Mexican utility schedules temporary Sonora power outage; Colombia calls for more thermal generation

Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced a two‑hour temporary suspension of electricity service for the communities of Puerto Libertad and Desemboque de los Seris in Sonora on 12 June 2026. The shutdown, scheduled from 01:00 to 03:00 local time, is intended for maintenance work on the grid infrastructure and aims to improve service reliability while minimizing impact on daily activities.

In Colombia, the energy regulator XM released its June 2026 bulletin warning that low reservoir levels and rising summer demand threaten the stability of the National Interconnected System (SIN). The report urges authorities to increase thermal‑generation capacity and bolster water reserves, noting that reservoir storage stood at 69.43 % of usable volume on 4 June and that daily demand peaked at a record 261.86 GWh on 15 May. XM recommends securing sufficient fuel supplies for thermal plants to meet projected needs of over 90 GWh per day throughout the upcoming summer.
