Mexicapan, Zacatecas marks second anniversary of its Barrio Mágico designation

The state government of Zacatecas commemorated the second anniversary of Mexicapan's designation as a "Barrio Mágico" on July 4, 2024. The ceremony took place in the Atrio of the Capilla de Mexicapan and was led by officials including Governor David Monreal Ávila, Subsecretary of Tourism Development Judith Flores Hernández, and representatives of the federal Tourism Secretariat.

Cultural activities highlighted the neighborhood's heritage: a puppet performance of the "Leyenda del Indio Triste," a traditional Morismas reenactment by the Cofradía de San Juan Bautista de Bracho, and the distribution of books to attendees. Historians and heritage advocates such as state chronicler Federico Priapo Chew Araiza, Archives Director Lucía de León, and APAZAC president Josefina Nava emphasized the importance of preserving Mexicapan’s material and immaterial culture and its role in diversifying Zacatecas’s tourist offering.
