Mexico's Mágico Towns tourism celebrations

In early July 2026, the state of Zacatecas marked the second anniversary of Mexicapan’s designation as a “Barrio Mágico.” Officials highlighted the neighbourhood’s cultural heritage with puppet shows, traditional reenactments and the distribution of books, while historians and heritage advocates stressed the importance of preserving both material and immaterial culture to diversify the state’s tourism offering.

Later that month, the federal Secretariat of Tourism commemorated Taxco’s 24 years as a “Pueblo Mágico.” The celebration promoted the city’s colonial architecture, silver‑craft reputation and culinary traditions, and detailed its tourism infrastructure – over 1,500 hotel rooms, hundreds of lodging options and a bustling weekly silver market. Both events illustrate the ongoing Mexican government effort to promote and celebrate the “Mágico” designations as a driver of cultural tourism across the country.
