Disability inclusion initiatives expand in Spain and Mexico

Various initiatives in Spain and Mexico are focusing on improving accessibility and social inclusion for people with disabilities.

In Jerez, Spain, the association ASPAYM organized an awareness event for International Spinal Cord Injury Day. Participants experienced mobility barriers firsthand by navigating the city in wheelchairs to highlight the need for more inclusive urban infrastructure and public policy. The organization called for greater visibility, early prevention, and social commitment.

In Mexico, several efforts are targeting visual impairment. The government of Naucalpan has introduced Braille-formatted identity and residency documents, alongside QR codes that link to Mexican Sign Language videos, to ensure more autonomous access to public information.

Additionally, the non-profit love. fútbol is rehabilitating community sports courts in Mexico, including sites in Tepito and Granada. These projects incorporate tactile guides, ramps, and handrails to facilitate access for visually impaired individuals. The initiative also collaborates with Ojos que Sienten A. C., utilizing photographers with visual impairments to document the community transformations.
