Overview
In Baja California, Deputy Michelle Tejeda introduced a legislative initiative to reform the Law for Persons with Disabilities. The proposal aims to improve accessibility in public service modules by requiring staff trained in Mexican Sign Language (LSM) and implementing tools such as Braille, written communication, and real-time transcription applications.
Following these legislative efforts, accessibility initiatives have expanded in other regions of Mexico. In Naucalpan, Mayor Isaac Montoya Márquez announced that municipal documents, including identity and residency certificates, are now available in Braille and feature QR codes linking to Mexican Sign Language videos.
Additionally, the non-profit organization love. fútbol, in partnership with PepsiCo and Ojos que Sienten A. C., has begun rehabilitating 19 community sports courts to increase inclusivity. Projects in areas such as Tepito and Granada include the installation of tactile paving, ramps, and handrails to assist individuals with visual disabilities.
