Mexico advances infrastructure via road repairs and new project approval system

The Mexican government is implementing several initiatives to improve national infrastructure and streamline development. Through the “MegaBachetón 2026” program, the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) has addressed over 74,000 kilometers of the federal highway network. As of late September, the program has repaired 56,906 potholes, covering approximately 182,099 square meters. The effort involves over 20,000 workers and nearly 6,000 units of specialized machinery to manage both routine and periodic conservation.

In a separate effort to boost investment, the National Bank of Public Works and Services (Banobras) is proposing a “single window” system to accelerate infrastructure development. The government has identified more than 1,500 viable projects and aims to reduce bureaucratic delays by establishing a 90-day deadline for the approval of projects and basic permits. This new mechanism would involve a committee reporting directly to the Presidency, intended to provide greater certainty for investors and prevent project loss during administrative transitions.
