Mexico advances major highway expansions in Colima and Michoacán

Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva announced that the six‑lane expansion of the Manzanillo‑Armería section of the Colima‑Manzanillo highway is nearing completion. The work, which began on 15 July 2024, aims to improve traffic flow despite temporary inconveniences, increased accidents and a dip in tourism reported during construction.

Separately, the Secretariat of Communications and Public Works (SCOP) confirmed that the Maravatío‑Zitácuaro highway in Michoacán will become toll‑free, cutting travel times by up to 40 minutes. The 72.3‑km project, overseen by the Red de Carreteras de Occidente and funded with 4.575 billion pesos, includes three new bypasses, widening of the road to 12‑16 metres and four lanes, and the recent completion of the Puente de Fierro bridge and Zitácuaro interchange.
