Mexico advances mangrove reforestation in Tamaulipas and water‑bill conservation funding in Coahuila

A five‑year mangrove reforestation project has been launched in San Fernando, Tamaulipas. Coordinated by Juan Ángel Hernández Vega, the initiative involves more than 500 local citizens planting three mangrove species (red, white and bontoncillo) under the support of federal agencies CONAFOR and SEMARNAT, with aims to boost apiculture, tourism and local employment.

In Saltillo, Coahuila, PROFAUNA is relaunching the “Cuencas y Ciudades” program, allowing water‑bill payers to add voluntary contributions to conservation of the Sierra de Zapalinamé. About 58,200 users are already participating, providing roughly 35 % of the funding for 32 projects spread across five sub‑programs, supported by five camps and 25 brigadistas in cooperation with the Conservación San Lorenzo association.
