Mexico advances universal health credential registration for seniors and disabled

The Mexican Secretariat of Welfare is continuing the nationwide registration of older adults and persons with disabilities for the Universal Health Service credential. An estimated 2,136 registration modules have been installed across the country, with each municipality in Campeche hosting a module that operates Monday‑Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The rollout targets beneficiaries of the senior and disability pension programs. Registration is scheduled by the first letter of the beneficiary’s surname, with the first and third weeks of each month allocated for letters up to 14 November. Persons with disabilities under 18 may be credentialed when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Required documents include a photo ID, a recent proof of address, and a contact phone number.

The credential, set to become active in January 2027, will grant holders access to subsidized medications, identify eligibility for benefits, locate the nearest health facilities, and provide access to electronic medical records.
