Mexico Allocates 21 Million Pesos to School Arts Programs

The Mexican Secretariat of Culture, together with the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL), announced the selection of 70 projects for the 2026 edition of the Convocatoria Artes Escénicas en la Escuela. Sixty proposals will fund the circulation of existing performances, and ten will support the production of new works aimed at primary and secondary students across 32 states. The program carries an investment of 21 million pesos to strengthen artistic education, with performances scheduled for the 2026‑2027 school year.

Secretariat official Claudia Curiel de Icaza said, “Allocating public resources to school performing arts is an investment in a society that can live together with respect for diversity; it also means supporting creators and reaffirming that artistic training must have a substantive place in the education of new generations.” The initiative includes mediation activities to promote creativity, critical thinking, and holistic development for children and adolescents.
