Mexico analyzes regulation of digital devices in schools

During the Second Extraordinary National Plenary Meeting of the National Council of Educational Authorities (CONAEDU), Mexico's Secretary of Public Education and officials from all 32 states analyzed the regulation of digital devices in schools.

The discussion follows a national consultation involving basic education teachers, prompted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The initiative aims to address the impact of mobile phones, social media, and excessive screen time on students. Experts and former executives from major technology companies have been consulted to reach a consensus on the potential harms of unregulated device use.

Educators emphasized the need for clear regulations tailored to student age groups and the establishment of protocols to mitigate risks associated with social media. The strategy also seeks to involve families through shared responsibility and guidance to ensure that digital use does not interfere with essential social and emotional development, such as physical play and peer interaction.
