Mexico's SIPINNA calls for protection of teen who accused teacher of sexual abuse

The Sistema Nacional de Protección Integral de Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes (SIPINNA) issued an urgent appeal to safeguard a teenage girl who reported alleged sexual abuse by teacher Alberto Israel Jasso Cruz at a Mexico City high‑school. After the teacher’s death, the teenager has been subjected to digital harassment, media exposure and threats. SIPINNA stressed that no child should be revictimized for reporting violence, reaffirming the state’s duty to guarantee safety, dignity and access to justice under the General Law on the Rights of Children and Adolescents (articles 76‑77). The agency called on judicial authorities, educational institutions, media and digital platforms to protect the minor’s identity, prevent further retaliation and ensure that the investigation into the teacher’s alleged conduct proceeds despite his death.

SIPINNA’s statements underscored the broader obligation to protect minors from sexual abuse and to respond firmly to any form of digital violence associated with such cases.
